Beihai, meaning Northern Seas, is located just north of the Forbidden City. It encompasses numerous lakes and water bodies, where lotus flowers bloom in the summer. The park is famous as a boating spot. Climb the stairs to the Coal Hill to admire the turquoise wall of miniature Buddhas, the White Dagoba, built in 1651 to honour a visiting Dalai Lama. Open daily 06:00-20:30. Tip: The Coal Hill provides a magnificent view over the Forbidden City to the Beijing skyline, if the weather permits of course.
