Copenhagen has a long-standing tradition for open-air markets. Israels Plads, the home of Torvehallerne, is one such example, that hosted a vegetable market since 1889. Torvehallerne or "square halls" is a modern take on the traditional marketplace. It opened in September 2011 and is now the city's biggest food market with over 60 small stalls selling fresh produce, gourmet food and ingredients from all regions of Denmark. Bring the food home or enjoy it in the outdoor seating area. Mon-Thu 10:00-19:00, Fri 10:00-20:00, Sat 10:00-18:00, Sun 11:00-17:00
