PETEE'S PIE COMPANY
61 Delancey Street 10002
10AM-11PM Su-Th / 10AM-12AM Fr-Sa
Two decades of Rocket Joe’s dominance at this address came crashing down five months ago when the hole-in-the-wall pizzeria served its last slice. The store remained shuttered behind the security gate painted by “Wish,” a dormant retail unit that awaited new suitors. We saw numerous listings for the 400 square-foot spot, all in the neighborhood of $6,000. Well, a new business just stepped to the plate.
Behold, Petee’s Pie Company, which just planted its flag (i.e. awning) onto the storefront. The bakery – conceived by Virginian Petra “Petee” Paredez – “makes damn fine pie for damn fine people.” Flavors include Cherry Crumb, Cranberry Apple, Sweet Potato, and Maple Walnut. Pies measure nine inches across, and are baked from scratch with fresh ingredients from New York State.
Petee’s pedigree is pie. Her parents own and operate the acclaimed Mom’s Apple Pie Company in Leesburg, Virginia. According to the company website, she spent her youth in the bakery, “pulling all-nighters before Thanksgiving, learning the tricks of the trade (production from her pop, marketing from her mom), and piloting new recipes using produce grown on the family farm.” Before starting the business, Petee taught special-needs children in NYC public schools.
