hile the food may not inspire quite the same levels of hyperbole as sister restaurant La Colombe (located on the same wine estate; reviewed later), the gracious atmosphere of Uitsig's original Cape Dutch manor house is a great deal more gratifying than you'll experience next door. Dishes can be a bit hit and miss (with more hits than misses) but what you're really here for is the jaw-dropping views of the vineyard-clad mountains, so either get here early, or make sure this is a luncheon stop. The menu is not particularly creative but you can't go too far wrong with offerings such as grilled springbok loin with a honey and lemon sauce, or roasted lamb with juniper jus. Laze in the garden or flop down on the private cricket oval before or after your meal, and imbibe the wholesome country goodness of this beautiful estate along with another bottle of wine-preferably Vin de Constance, the famous dessert wine produced by the same valley.
