In a city as gastronomically aware as this, the word ‘chain’ is like anathema to its population of serious eaters. Cofoco (Copenhagen Food Consultancy), however, may be the most successful exception. There’s no common name or glaring slogan at its restaurants but they are all run by the same savvy team, offering good food at reasonable prices, ranging from Italian morsels at Spuntino to Gallic greatness at Les Trois Cochons.
Their newest venture supposedly takes its surf & turf inspiration from Spain, with a blackboard-offering of shellfish from soft-shell crab and langoustines to mussels and oysters, served with the traditional accompaniments of red wine vinegar and chopped shallots, and a selection of octopus, prawns and clams either deep-fried or a la plancha. Mains are meaty joints of entrecote and tenderloin, swimming in herb butter and served with fries and salad.
Señor-worthy? Located in the, ahem, humbler part of the Nørrebro district, Oysters & Grill is a great but far from fancy place. The culinary concept, sailor-shirted wait staff, and jaunty, oilcloth-covered tables are meant to conjure thoughts of Mallorca, but a leap of imagination or a good number of the vodka shots from the menu might be needed for that. However, if the weather plays ball, head onto the sidewalk and watch the world go by. And what could be more Espanish than that?
