Architect Sir John Soane's Regency period house, which he started building in 1792. His vast collection of paintings, furniture, sculptures, casts and drawings is truly impressive and all the objects are arranged as they were at the time of his death. It can be a tight squeeze in some parts of the museum, but you're able to get really close to the objects. I particularly love wandering around the Egyptian antiquities. On the first Tuesday of each month, the museum is candlelit from 18.00 to 21.00, but there are only 200 tickets for the event, issued on a first come first served basis. Entry to the museum is free.
