An historic pub famous for its award-winning Sunday lunches. It's located right on the edge of Hampstead Heath and not far from Highgate Cemetery, so you can walk off your lunch afterwards. Dogs are welcome too.
Have the traditional roast rib of Dedham Vale Beef served with a giant Yorkshire Pudding, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli & horseradish sauce. The beer battered haddock & chips with pea puree, tartare sauce and a wally (a large gherkin) is also recommended. Eat in the main bar and restaurant, which has more atmosphere, the first floor dining room (which isn't always open) or sit outside.
If you'd rather picnic on the Heath, then take a Bull & Last hamper with you (order 24 hours in advance). The basic hamper at £38 contains more than enough goodies to fill you up but add delicious extras such as Scotch eggs and rare roast beef (and throw in a pig's ear or marrow bone for the dog!). Simply drop off the hamper afterwards or the next day.
