This extraordinary collection of work by the English designer, craftsman and social activist who led the Arts and Crafts movement, is located in a grand Georgian house in Walthamstow, his home from 1848 to 1856.
It has also just won the highly prestigious Art Fund Museum of the Year award, so be prepared to walk around with an eager crowd of visitors. When I visited, there were just a few people around. Recover afterwards in the Tea Room overlooking the grounds of Lloyd Park.
The museum isn't centrally located and is a 13 minute walk from Walthamstow Central tube station (the last stop east on the Victoria line). However, if you've been to London before and want to venture beyond the centrally located tourist sights, then a visit to the Gallery is definitely recommended.
