Nishiki is a several centuries old narrow food market in the heart of Kyoto. There are over a hundred stalls and restaurants lining the five blocks and they are entirely covered. Locals do their food shopping here, as do restaurant chefs.
You can find all manner of products here from fish and seafood to tofu and famous Kyoto-style pickled vegetables. The Aritsugu knife shop is also located here and was easily the busiest of all the stalls and shops we visited.
