There’s a ongoing trend for hiding restaurants in clandestine locations, tearing up the reservations book, not connecting a phone. The welcome advantage is often interesting food at decent prices. In his younger, cooler offshoot of Michelin-starred Viajante (in the same building), chef Nuno Mendes elevates this trend. Even the hotel’s website makes no mention of the restaurant. To visit, you’ll have to follow your nose. First, the easy bit, to The Town Hall Hotel. Once inside, there’s a clue in the name, and the excitable line of people should point in the right direction towards The Corner Room. But where its aloofness excels, so too does its food. Visit soon and you may catch his delectable mackerel and watermelon jiggery-pokery, and deconstructed Snickers bar dessert. A big reward for a little hard work. / Sara Lou
