In the Parque Nacional Machalilla, this is a beautifully undisturbed bit of coastline, surrounded by lush calm forest. Only accessible by foot (mostly), it is a stretch of sand in a perfect bay unrivalled along Ecuador's coastline. To get there, stay in Puerto Lopez (Sol Inn is a nice hostel), and catch a bus in the morning to Los Frailes. Then there is a walk through bits of the forest, and through dunes, deserted beaches, and to the Mirador viewpoint, before finally you reach Los Frailes and can relax and swim. To get back to the road either go the way you came, or if strapped for time, walk along the track that is a little more direct, and flag down the next bus.
