Note

The Castle is located on the top of the highest hill of the city, the highest of Lisbon's 7 hills. It was built as a fortress by Visigoths in the 5th century, and later became the fortification of the Moors. In 1147 it was captured by the first king of Portugal D.Afonso Henriques. It was badly damaged in the earthquake of 1755. It's reconstruction was started in the late 20th century during the dictatorship of Salazar. It offers an extraordinary view over the city and the Tagus river.
