Note

The tower is a great example of the 15th century military architecture of the Manueline style. Its main function was to guard the entrance of the harbor. Today, with no doubt, the monument is the symbol of Lisbon and the Golden Age of Discoveries. With its historical and cultural values it rightly became part of the UNESCO World Heritage in 1983.
