Lisbon Festivities

Starting on the night of the 12th of June and stretching itself for a month, Lisbon Festivities transform the city into a big party. These are festivities honoring Saint Anthony and his birthday - the 13th of June. All across the city, Lisbon's tradition of outdoor grilling sardines and colourful decoration is revived, specially in the city's oldest quarters ( Alfama, Mouraria, Bairro Alto).
On this night another important event takes place in "Avenida da Liberdade" - the "Popular Parade" where every neighborhood in the city, represented in a song and choreography, marches down the avenue in hopes of being named "best march".
Needless to say, this is Lisbon's busiest night of the year with the population of the city doubling.
