Ever since 1912 the Sóller railway has been running a daily train service without interruption along the 27 km attractive route between Palma de Mallorca and Sóller, overcoming the natural barrier of the Sierra de Alfàbia mountain range, passing thirteen longitudinal tunnels and crossing over several bridges, including the “cinc-ponts” viaduct (pic. 2) which has five arches with spans more than 8 metres high.
The railway is characterized by its narrow gauge, the track width being an English yard, which is quite infrequent nowadays; moreover its rolling stock is extremely varied and meticulously finished, and maintained using traditional methods.
In the trainstation in Palma you´ll find two exhibitions: "Sala Miró" (Joan Miró) and "Sala Picasso" (Pablo Ruiz Picasso).
