Lotus lake

The lotus lake in Udon Thani, in Thailand's Northeast, is an allegory for forgetting and for beauty.

These wetlands remain predominantly hidden by tall elephant grasses.
Thousands of loti in these marshlands glimmer like red and pink constellations, hidden behind tall rice crops known for the most part only by the local villagers and farmers who venture out to fish and to collect snails and lotus stalks.

Best visited in the cool season from December through February in the morning or evening, these shallow, limpid waters may only be visited on a wooden boat belonging to the locals.
