Very good modern Spanish food. The tartar of tuna and salmon is a MUST!

The Barcelona-based Grupo Tragaluz is back in the Spanish capital with a new place, two years after introducing the madrileños to Bar Tómate, and they appear to have another insta-hit on their hands with Luzi Bombón.

As always, it’s Sandra Tarruella, daughter and interiorista of the family-owned group, at the design helm, and as always the result is a fabulous showcase of the minimalist Wallpaper*-ish style that her firm does so brilliantly: Concrete floors, pale wooden-slatted walls and an abundance of light materials, dolled up by retro 50s furniture, table lamps and colourful cushions on cosy sofas. Luzi’s understated, but definitely not a bore.

Open for the better part of the day, it’s an all-encompassing lunch to post-work drinks and dinner kind of place, with a late night bar and DJ to live things up on weekends, and Mediterranean brasserie fare any time. Pick your choice of fish, beef, pork or poultry to be thrown on the grill – or a for-share two-person arroz – with an assortment of sides and smaller plates to snack on before the main course arrives.

It may sound like a sweet shop, but Luzi Bombón has already proven itself to be much more than child’s play. You may not walk out with a pick & mix but the eye candy – interiors and handsome crowd alike – more than make up for it.
