Frederiksborg castle is by far my favourite one in Denmark. It was built by King Christian IV in the 17th century and is the largest Renaissance castle in Scandinavia. Nowadays it is not used as a royal residence, but there is the Museum of National History and a church housed in the castle. Very pretty, feels like straight out of a princess fairy-tale. The castle is surrounded by a small lake and has a big Baroque garden that makes for a perfect romantic stroll. Even on warm summer days you can still enjoy some idyllic time as it is not usually packed with visitors.
