Created in 2002 by the French NGO Agir Pour Le Cambodge, Sala Baï is a free hospitality school located not far from the centre of Siem Reap.
Each year, the school trains 100 disadvantaged young Cambodians in one of four main professions in the hospitality industry: restaurant service, cooking, reception work, or housekeeping. During the 12 month training program the school covers all the students training fees (lessons, school supplies, books, and uniforms), and daily expenses (accommodation, food, bicycle, insurance, and medical expenses).
From September to July the students study, train, are tested, and receive feedback about their work. During the final month of August, staff assist the students to find employment.
This student-focused hands-on approach has allowed the school to achieve placements in hospitality for 100%of their graduates.
Sala Baï Restaurant School is open Monday to Friday for lunch (closed on weekends and public holidays) and serves up high quality Asian fusion dishes. There is also a small guesthouse at Sala Baï as well.
