Toronto (and its surrounding area) has some wicked Chinese food. There are several Chinatowns, but the main one on Spadina (between College and Dundas) is the most centrally located.
Torontonians from all over have developed a love for dim sum, and Rol San is a pretty good place to satisfy the craving. Some of the best dim sum places are further afield (like in Markham and Scarborough), so for downtown, Rol San is our pick.
It probably won't be the best dim sum you've ever had. Not by a long shot. But - it's still pretty damn good.
Avoid going at lunchtime on the weekends - 11am or 2pm are better bets - as it's just too busy and the line can get a bit much.
The servers aren't super friendly, but who cares. Just make sure you double check your bill and are only charged for what you ordered and received (especially late night).
Our faves: pork siu mei (pork dumplings), cha siu bao (steamed BBQ pork buns), lo mah gai (sticky rice in lotus leaf), ha gow (shrimp dumplings), shrimp cheong fun (rice noodle roll).
Nevermind late night street meat or pizza, dim sum is where it's at. Open until 4am, Rol San is our pick for post-drinking food sessions. Once you do late night dim sum, it's hard to go back to pizza. Trust.
