Pastelaria Bijou do Calhariz

Bijou do Calhariz was founded in 1927 and has belonged to the same family since 1948. Situated right next to the famous funicular of Bica, it's in one of the most picturesque places in the city.

What we love about it is that it really doesn't seem to have changed in decades. The interior is still decorated in the original style, and it maintains its loyal local Portuguese clients, who come in every morning for breakfast, to meet friends, or just to read the newspaper. Without a doubt, this is a place where you can really get the feeling of daily life in Lisbon.

Aside from dripping in authenticity, culture, and history, this café is famous for its cakes like Bola de Berlim, Queque, and croissants that you really shouldn't miss. Bom apetite!
