One of the most charming theatres in Siem Reap is the Angkor Village Apsara Theatre off Wat Bo Road. The beautifully decorated wooden structure allows the audience to step back to the time of the Angkorian Kings. Stunningly dressed dancers bring to life the epic tales of the Royal Court as well as the country dances favoured by peasants. The performance is accompanied by traditional music with Khmer drums, gongs, xylophones, and the oboe as well as singing.
A meal (no drinks), is included with the theatre performance. The food is reasonable; however, it is the theatre and performers that are the real stars of the show.
Shows are usually twice daily in the high season from October – March and once per day (or sometimes every second day) in the low season from April – September. Seating downstairs is at low tables on cushions on the floor. There is also limited seating on the second floor balcony with chairs and tables. If you find sitting on the floor uncomfortable, we recommend you book the upstairs seats.
