Plenty of street food places serve the Hanoi specialty Bun Ca, but no one does it quite like the family at Quán Sâm Cây Si, a little food stall on an alley that runs off Dinh Liet St, in the heart of the Old Quarter (located at the bend of the alley).
First, the fish noodle soup - simply outstanding. Rice noodles and pieces of deep fried fish are delicately balanced out by a stupendously good broth, infused with dill, pineapple, tomato, and other fresh ingredients that will have you asking for a refill in no time.
But, what makes these guys different is what they serve it with. Ask for 'Ca Cuon' (Fish Rolls) and you will be transported directly to heaven. The family that run this stall invented this delicious spring roll which is made up of minced pork, wrapped in fish, then deep fried. We aren't sure if nature meant for pork meat and fish to be combined together in one dish (on paper it just doesn't seem like it will work), but trust us on this one, it's one of the best street food experiences you can have. Open from lunchtime till 6pm.
