If you're craving a little green space in Toronto, you could go to the Island or Trinity Bellwoods Park, but one of our absolute favourites is Evergreen Brick Works. Tucked away in the surprisingly lush Don Valley, the Evergreen Brick Works used to be a brick factory that supplied bricks for nearly every house in Toronto. After sitting vacant for years, it was turned into a sustainable paradise, hosting a bike shop, food and eco workshops and seminars, events, and a farmers' market on Saturdays. It also links up to the Beltline Trail, perfect for a nature walk, run, or bike before or after a visit to the market.
Here, you can find incredible, seasonal local produce, and in the summertime, there are about a dozen food vendors selling freshly prepared food for you to enjoy right then and there (get the dumplings!).
To get there, hop on one of the several bike/running trails and paths that lead to EBW from all parts of the city, or grab the free shuttle that runs every half hour from Broadview Station. Believe it or not, some Torontonians don't even know this urban gem exists, but it is a total must-visit!
