A former pension, the whole building had gotten into a dilapidated state before being restored, converted, and reopened in November 2011. There are several different businesses living in the new space, including workshops, a restaurant and cabaret, lingerie store, erotic bookstore, and hairdresser (did we mention the businesses are quite varied?!).
The building's name honours the history of the building and the old Cais do Sodré port area frequented by prostitutes and sailors. The building was reborn with everyone in mind - the city, its inhabitants, and visitors, as a place for new encounters, exchanges, and sharing of ideas. The imaginative recovery project (orchestrated by the same team that rehabilitated the Lx Factory), was sure to integrate the many valued memories, stories, and experiences of the neighbourhood.
It's absolutely worth stopping by and exploring. Hopefully you'll catch one of the events or shows that frequent the space, including burlesque and cabaret, as well as concerts, poetry readings, theatre, and other community events.
