Located in the quiet residential enclave of Truc Bach, this eclectic little restaurant is a throw back to the post-war days of Hanoi.
From the 1970s until the early 90s, it was common practice for Hanoians to buy all of their produce from state food stores. This place taps into that period in a somewhat nostalgic way, even to the point where, just like it was back then, you purchase food coupons to exchange for your meals.
The walls are covered in antiques and memorabilia from those simple days - old TVs and radios, rubber shoes made from tires, and even bricks with names on them that were once used to reserve your place in the long queues that were common at the state food stores.
The food is modelled on the dishes served during that era, so expect simple Vietnamese fare - but get ready to be surprised how delicious the food can be.
