The Bryant Park Reading Room was an original gathering spot for intellectuals. It was established in 1935 as a place for book-lovers, who were out of work due to the Great Depression, to gather and read books without any identification or fee. Today, it is a peaceful area of Bryant Park with plenty of outdoor seating and free Wi-Fi. The books are still available for checkout, no fee or identification necessary.
