Gammel Kongevej, in the west suburb of Frederiksberg, is one of the city’s most famous streets. It’s an affluent area and the street itself is littered with boutique fashion and furniture, cafés and culture.
Parterre, though unassuming at first sight, is a store that stands out from the rest. Nestled in between a bakery and lingerie store, it’s innocent in appearance. With little attention drawn to itself other than the shop’s front signage, it’s easy to see that Parterre caters for a certain kind of customer.
Owned by husband and wife Oliver and Kirstine, Parterre purposefully sources the kind of labels that cannot be found anywhere else in Copenhagen. Rather than following “fashion” per se, they look to designers that adopt a sort of philosophical approach to aesthetics, like Belgium designer Sofie D’Hoore, known for her structured volume; or Minä Perhonen, with his focus on textiles. It’s intellectual fashion for women with a strong sense of style.
