Note

Architect Sir John Soane's Regency period house, which he started building in 1792. His vast collection of paintings, furniture, sculptures, casts and drawings is truly impressive and all the objects are arranged as they were at the time of his death.

It can be a tight squeeze in some parts of the building, but on the other hand you are able to admire the objects at extremely close range. I particularly enjoy wandering around the Egyptian antiquities.

On the first Tuesday of each month, the museum is candlelit from 18.00 to 21.00. There are, however, only 200 tickets for this special event, issued on a first come first served basis, so do get there early.

Opening hours: free entry
Tue-Sat 10.00-17.00 (last entry 16.30)
