Liberty

It's hard to miss this distinctive Tudor-style building created from the wood of two old Navy ships. In business since 1875, department store Liberty is a firm favourite with design lovers.

Despite its relatively compact size, somehow you always find everything you need, whether it's a blanket, a pair of jeans or a gift for a good friend. The emphasis throughout the store is on excellent quality and creative design, and the scarf and furniture departments are fine examples of this.

I enjoy wandering up and down the creaky wooden stairs rather than taking the elevator. And best of all the background music is low, making Liberty a most relaxing space to shop.
