Note

Green Gecko provides security, education and opportunities for Siem Reap’s former street children to free them from begging and allow them to reach their full potential in society. Green Gecko is located a short remork (tuk tuk) journey from town in a local village. The Green Gecko website has a map which provides you with good directions about how to get there – the remork driver may not know. Seventy two former street children live at the centre and receive Khmer and English education, sport and vocational activities, and health and medical support. The project also runs community outreach programs to support street families and help them break the begging cycle. While you are in Siem Reap you can visit the visitors centre at Green Gecko and hear about their work in community from 9.30 – 10.30am Monday – Friday. For child protection reasons there is no playing or contact with the children. There is a small shop where you can purchase a Green Gecko cook book, t-shirt, or apron all in a good cause.
If you can’t make it to the Green Gecko Visitors Centre or even if you do then you may like to enjoy a meal at Green Star Restaurant. A simple and friendly not-for-profit Khmer Restaurant Green Star supports the work of Green Gecko. Not far from Old Market, across the bridge near Wat Damnak the restaurant has simple surroundings but tasty well priced food. Some of our favourite dishes are the squid with Kampot pepper, spicy frog, fried corn and stuffed omelette.
