Lotus Blanc Restaurant is a training and practice centre for underprivileged young adults who formerly worked as scrap collectors at Steung Meanchey landfill.
The restaurant is run by the French not-for-profit organisation Pour un Sourire d'Enfant, (Smile of a Child), which trains underprivileged young men and women in hospitality and service.
Lotus Blanc acts as a practice restaurant after their training, preparing them for the transition to work in a four or five star hotel. It opened in 2002, and now there are 400 students studying in one of six hotel training programs. Most go on to gain employment in the hospitality and tourism industry after they graduate.
Eager to please, but sometimes a little nervous, the service is attentive and friendly. The restaurant serves both Khmer and Western cuisine and prices are moderate for good quality food. Happy hour drinks are served from 5 – 7.30pm.
Bookings are recommended and the restaurant is closed on public and student holidays.
